Homemade Peach Simple Syrup
When peaches are in season, there’s no better time to capture their sweet, juicy flavor in a simple syrup. Especially when I can find some fairly locally. I was inspired to make some this year as my 50th birthday is coming up and my signature drink is going to have peach simple syrup in it. So, I thought I would share how easy it is to make and the drink recipe that I came up with. Simple syrups are always a great way of adding a natural sweetness to your favorite foods and drinks.
Ingredients
2 cups fresh peaches, peeled and diced (about 3–4 medium peaches)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
Instructions
In a medium saucepan, combine the diced peaches, sugar, and water.
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 15 -20 minutes, or until the peaches are soft and the syrup has thickened slightly.
Use a fine mesh strainer to strain out the peach solids. Press gently to extract as much liquid as possible.
Let the syrup cool completely, then transfer it to a clean glass jar or bottle.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Note from the Farm Kitchen
Don’t toss the leftover peach solids — they make a delicious topping for yogurt, oatmeal, or ice cream. If you warm them up they are even better.
Other Ways to Use Peach Simple Syrup:
In Drinks: Add to iced tea, lemonade, or sparkling water for a naturally sweet peach twist. It also makes a great mixer for cocktails like whiskey sours, mojitos, or bellinis.
On Breakfast: Drizzle over pancakes, waffles, French toast, or stir into oatmeal for a fruity kick.
In Baking: Brush onto cake layers to keep them moist and add subtle flavor. You can also stir a bit into frosting or glazes.
With Dairy: Swirl into Greek yogurt, vanilla ice cream, or cottage cheese.
In Marinades and Glazes: Combine with vinegar, mustard, or soy sauce for a sweet-savory glaze for grilled chicken or pork.
Hopefully I have helped you add a bit of deliciousness to your life and to hold on to a little taste of summer longer.
